Amman, Feb. 7 (Petra) – First Vice Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Jamal Rifai, met with a delegation from the Credit Risk Analysis Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss the chamber's role and contributions to achieve the private sector development, as well as ways to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to a JCC statement issued on Saturday, Rifai highlighted the available opportunities in the national economy that can be leveraged to attract foreign investment, particularly from Japan.
Rifai highlighted the Kingdom's privileges and incentives offered to business owners and companies, mainly its strategic location, security and stability, a package of modern legislation, and trade agreements linking Jordan with various global trade blocs.
Rifai stressed the importance of Jordan's potential to serve as a key gateway for reconstruction projects in Syria.
He also noted the government's "strong coordination and genuine partnership, which operates transparently and monitors long-term investments, and the private sector to achieve growth and sustainability and implement the Economic Modernization Vision." For his part, JCC board member Mohammad Tahbaa referred to several economic sectors that achieve "remarkable success" stories, mainly information technology, pharmaceuticals, apparel, and food industries, as well as some "distinguished" service sectors that possess preferential export advantages.
Members of the delegation said JICA is an independent governmental organization with a wide network of overseas offices to promote international cooperation and serves as the executive arm of Japan's official development assistance.
The JICA team noted the agency aims to support sustainable economic and social development in developing countries, including Jordan, by providing technical assistance, concessional loans, grants, and institutional capacity building.
In this context, they said JICA also implements projects in vital sectors such as energy, water, health, and education to bolster development.
The visit to the Kingdom focuses on cooperation in the areas of technical support and knowledge transfer by implementing joint training programs and projects to transfer Japanese expertise and technology, aimed to strengthen development partnerships and cooperation to implement national development priorities, said the delegates.
Noting Jordan's status as a key partner for Japan, they stated His Majesty King Abdullah II's recent visit to Japan will enhance export opportunities and strengthen bilateral economic relations.
